Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a therapy that delivers small impulses into muscles to helps to help reduce pain, relax tense muscles, reduce swelling, and improve blood flow. It is often used by physical therapist and chiropractic physicians.
- Helps reduce pain: Helps reduce muscle pain and swelling by relaxing injured muscles and improving blood flow which can help the body release endorphins, natural pain relievers.
- Re-educate muscles: Injuries can cause muscles to become tight and weak which causes abnormal movement and can result in increased degeneration of the associated joints. EMS causes the muscles to repeatedly contract and relax which can re-educate the muscles by sending the correct nerve input back to the brain. This helps to re-establish the normal control and tone of the muscle.
- Prevents muscle atrophy: Injured muscles will eventually begin to decrease their muscle fibers or atrophy. EMS helps the tone and strengthen the muscles through contraction and relaxation.

Medically Directed Rehabilitation
Once an accurate diagnosis is obtained, a personalized physical medicine treatment program will be recommended. We also pride ourselves on effectively showing you: (1) What is causing your problem, (2) How to optimally correct it, and (3) Wellness strategies that you can use at home to stay strong and healthy and prevent the problem from reoccurring. Our staff of spinal rehabilitation specialists are specially trained to come together to help improve the function and the movement of your body. They focus on improving your strength, flexibility, balance, posture, and physical mobility and concentrate on techniques to reduce pain and increase energy.
Spinal RehabilitationOur spinal rehabilitation program employs the latest and most updated techniques for correcting spinal and postural problems. We use Pettibon Spinal Rehabilitative Procedures and CBP Corrective Procedures to re-align and strengthen the spine and postural muscles. Our revolutionary approach includes the following therapies to maximize improvements:
Rehabilitative exercises using Whole Body Vibration accelerates results over traditional physical rehabilitation. The platform vibrates and oscillates which causes your muscles to reflexively contract multiple times. This provides the following benefits:
- Strengthens spinal and core muscles
- Decreases pain
- Improves mobility
- Improves posture
- Improves bone strength
- Improves circulation
- Improves growth hormone
- Improves serotonin (the “happy” hormone)
- Decreases cortisol (the stress hormone)
Wobble board exercises directly target the intervertebral discs in the lower back. This exercise is excellent for improving and preventing worn out degenerated discs. This exercise also stretches and strengthens the core and lower back muscles. Our patients find that this exercise is great for alleviating lower back pain. When used with our postural weighting system, the wobble board exercises become a powerful way to strengthen and correct postural disorders.
We use multiple different types of traction to focus on the discs in the neck and postural muscles. This exercises helps to rehabilitate the disc in the neck, stretch the neck and upper back muscles, and are great at alleviating neck pain.
Mirror Image Postural Exercises
Just as an orthodontist takes time to correct abnormal positions of the teeth with braces, it takes time to rehabilitate and strengthen postural muscles to correct abnormal postural alignment. This is best achieved with isometric, mirror image exercises. These are specialized exercises which correct postural and spinal alignment by strengthening your core and spinal muscles. These are the muscles which are primary to preventing injury and optimizing spinal health.
Spinal disorders create postural problems such as a forward head posture, high shoulder, and twisted pelvis. These problems lead to pain, arthritis, and disability. An integral part of correction is using mirror image postural exercises. After a thorough examination, specific individualized exercises are given to reverse the abnormal posture, thereby helping to correct the underlying spinal disorder.
There are two types of muscles in the body. Voluntary muscles move joints. These are the muscles you consciously move, such as your bicep muscle which bends your elbow. Involuntary postural muscles are not consciously controlled, they are operated by your brain without your awareness. These muscles control the alignment of the spine and are the primary muscles that allow injury when not functioning correctly.
The postural body weighting system uses specializes weights, placed in specific areas, to stimulate your brain to strengthen postural muscles that will re-align your spine and posture into the strongest, healthiest position.
The PTLMS is used to help achieve better results in terms of pain relief and structural correction. It provides the following results:
- Decreases pain
- Decreases muscle spasm and muscle splinting
- Increases blood flow
- Enhances metabolic function for improved regeneration of the muscles, ligaments, and tendons
This instrument is excellent for helping to reduce severe pain in acute injuries and lessening chronic pain of tight and sore muscles.
Corrective Wellness Exercises
Once correction of your condition is achieved, a tailor made, specific home exercise program will be designed for you to continue at home. This program will allow you to continue to get healthier and stronger and, most importantly, will prevent the problem from re-occurring.
Once optimal results are achieved with our Physical Rehabilitation and Chiropractic Program, we spend time to develop an individualized home exercises program that you can perform in the comfort of your own home. This program is customized to your specific needs and will help you to not only to stay healthy and feel well, but also to continually improve. Research has proved that these programs help you to maintain optimal health and prevent injuries from occurring.
